Q. Can insurance pay the cost of renting an accessible vehicle?

A. Vehicle insurance is a payment source for patients recovering from injuries due to automobile accidents or in cases where a disabled driver's vehicle is being repaired after an accident. Auto insurance companies cover the cost of accessible van rentals until repairs to the client's vehicle can be completed or until a replacement vehicle is found.

The regulation for insurance companies who are replacing your vehicle when your vehicle has been struck by one of their insureds is, "The insurance company of the person at fault for the accident has to put you at the same condition or better." This means that if you are driving a vehicle which has a lift or ramp, hand controls, spinner knob, and/or a transfer seat, the insurance company is required to pay for you to rent an equivalent vehicle.

To assist you better, please have the insurance company name and claim number.
